POSITION TITLE: Middle School & High School Choir Director

 

FLSA:  Exempt

 

QUALIFICATIONS:   Must be certified PK-8 Vocal Music and 7-12 Vocal Music.

 

REPORTS TO:   Principal and/or other Supervisor

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  203 day contract

 

                            

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Extra-curricular and co-curricular responsibilities, which include: Music direction of school musicals, pep rallies, and community events, preparation and participation in various contests such as: All district/state choir, district/state solo/ensemble festival, state large ensemble contest.

  2. Establishes performance requirements, enforces academic requirements, and verifies each student’s eligibility to participate in choir.

  3. Organizes and implements vocal music trips in accordance with district policy and regulations as well as student interest and ability. Arranges transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.

  4. Complies with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and Board of Education policies.

  5. Cooperates with the school administration in providing music programs for school productions and, as appropriate, civic functions that enhance students’ performing experience.

  6. Prepares students and required documents for District and State auditions and competitions. Makes all arrangements.

  7. Oversees scheduling and other arrangements for the rehearsals and concerts in cooperation with the building principal.

  8. Maintains an accurate inventory of equipment, uniforms, etc. Controls the storage and use of school-owned equipment and materials; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.

  9. Submits budget needs annually to the principal in accordance with established timelines and guidelines.

  10. Orders all supplies and materials necessary for music-related activities in accordance with established district procedures and budget allocations.

  11. Develops and implements plans for music programs and shows written evidence of preparation as required.

  12. Prepares lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.

  13. Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.

  14. Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

  15. Other duties as assigned by the principal or other administrative staff.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:   

  1. Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.

  2. Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.

  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  4. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.

  5. Serve on committees as assigned.

  6. Remain current on instructional practices in education.  (e.g. instructional technology)
