K–5 Music Teacher
Location: Berryville Elementary & Berryville Intermediate
Job Type: Full-Time, 190-Day Contract
Reports To: Building Principals
Position Summary
Berryville Schools is seeking a dynamic and student-centered K–5 Music Teacher to provide engaging, standards-based music instruction aligned to the Arkansas Fine Arts Academic Standards. The ideal candidate will foster creativity, musical literacy, and performance skills while actively participating in a Professional Learning Community (PLC) to support student growth and school-wide achievement.
Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate music instruction aligned to the Arkansas Fine Arts Academic Standards for Music (K–5).
- Teach foundational music skills including rhythm, melody, harmony, movement, performance, and music literacy.
- Incorporate singing, instruments, movement, and technology into instruction.
- Prepare students for school performances and programs as appropriate.
- Integrate cross-curricular connections when applicable.
Assessment & Data Use
- Develop and implement formative and summative assessments aligned to state standards.
- Monitor and document student progress in music literacy and performance skills.
- Use student data to inform instruction and adjust teaching strategies.
Professional Learning Community (PLC) Participation
- Participate actively in PLC meetings and collaborative planning.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to support school-wide goals.
- Contribute to data discussions and continuous improvement efforts.
- Support intervention and enrichment strategies when applicable.
Classroom Environment & Culture
- Establish and maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
- Promote creativity, self-expression, and respect for diverse musical traditions.
- Manage classroom procedures effectively across multiple grade levels.
Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and performances.
- Collaborate with administration, faculty, and support staff.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Support district initiatives and comply with Arkansas Department of Education guidelines.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field.
- Valid Arkansas Teaching License with Music (K–12) certification.
- Knowledge of Arkansas Fine Arts Academic Standards.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Commitment to collaboration and PLC participation.
Preferred:
- Experience teaching elementary music.
- Experience directing elementary performances or programs.
- Familiarity with Arkansas Teacher Excellence and Support System (TESS).
- Experience integrating music technology into instruction.
